Procedures for COVID-19 related symptoms

Will my student have to be tested for Covid-19 prior to attending school?
  • No. Students will not need to be tested for COVID-19 before attending in-person learning.
What happens if a student in my child’s classroom tests positive for COVID-19?
  • ECS will work quickly and directly with the Health Department of Northwest Michigan if a positive case of COVID-19 is reported. Appropriate notifications will be made as deemed necessary and individual and/or groups of students will be sent home for quarantine as advised.
If my student exhibits COVID-19 symptoms while at school will they be sent home?
  • In most circumstances yes. Students exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms while at school will be sent home. COVID-19 symptoms include; Fever or chills, Cough, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, Fatigue, Muscle or body aches, Headache, New loss of taste or smell, Sore throat, Congestion or runny nose, Nausea or vomiting, Diarrhea. Certain exceptions may be made for students exhibiting symptoms that are not outside of their personal norm. For example, students who suffer from seasonal allergies will not be sent home for symptoms consistent with their typical allergy pattern, or a student with Crohn's Disease would not be sent home for gastrointestinal symptoms.
If my student is sent home with COVID-19 related symptoms when can they return to school?
  • Students sent home with COVID-19 symptoms will be allowed to return to school if they can (a) produce a negative COIVD-19 test, or (b) remain home for the duration of the CDC’s current quarantine period.
How will my student continue to receive instruction while home on quarantine?
  • 100% in-person students who are sent home for COVID-19 related symptoms will continue to receive instruction along with the rest of their in-person classmates. This instruction will be provided via the same Accelerate/Canvas structure that 100% remote students will be using.
Will there be an area of the building set aside for students who exhibit COVID-19 related symptoms?
  • Yes, there will be a supervised area in each building that will be set aside for students exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms who are waiting to be picked up by a parent.
