
Congratulations to Olivia Strange, Lillian Sundstrom, and Calista Hoeksema for winning the Antrim Conservation District’s essay contest. Olivia was 1st place in the 10th-12th grade level and will receive $350 for her essay on causes and solutions to rising water levels. Lillian also wrote about rising water levels and will receive $150. Calista was 1st place in the 7th-9th grade level and will receive $350 for her essay invasive purple loosestrife.

The ECS Building Trades class is making great progress on this year’s project house. Windows are being installed and everything should be “dried in” before real winter hits. The 20’x20’ house complete with front porch, full kitchen/bath, and shake siding will be sold in the spring. Thanks to Mr. Cary and the crew for all their hard work this year.

The Queen of Bling and Sparkle has been busy at Ellsworth Elementary this week. Students are able to redeem PBIS tickets they earn for following the Lancer Values to have a visit from the Queen! From there they have the privilege of being treated like royalty for the remainder of the school day! It is so much fun to see such big surprising smiles whenever she arrives to a classroom.

Congratulations to Ellsworth senior, Private Todd Schultz for just completing 10 weeks of basic training for the Army at Ft. Sill, OK. Congratulations to ECS students Calista Hoeskema, Jurgen Griswold, and Patrick Puroll on their performance in last night's Antrim County Spelling Bee. Out of 22 spellers Calista placed 1st, Jurgen 2nd and Patrick 6th. All three ECS students will be moving on to the Regional Spelling Bee at the State Theater on March 17th.

The Ellsworth Community School Spirit Squad debuted their cheers at the Homecoming game on Friday! In a short period of time, they have worked incredibly hard practicing well-loved cheers, such as Dexterity Check and the Lancer Battle Cry, in addition to learning new cheers. Mrs. Stuck joined the English 12 classroom to do a Book Talk on one of her favorite historical fiction reads. Book Talks are a way for students learn what others like to read and helps expand their knowledge of book options and genres. Students can then check out the book or put it on their "Might Like to Read" list.

Students in Mrs. Speicher's 10th grade U.S. History class completed group research projects on aspects of the Civil War era. Some of the topics included prominent politicians, significant battles, everyday life of northerners and southerners, and the effects of the war. Students dressed up as politicians, created models, displayed primary source documents, and created posters for visuals!

Ellsworth FFA members are attending the 90th National FFA Convention and Expo this week in Indianapolis, IN. The members are attending student leadership workshops and sessions, and learning about agricultural careers. These Ellsworth students are networking with ag industry leaders and over 65, 000 fellow members from all across the United States.
